2、e.Womenpredominatedinschoolsforchildren.Thiswasparticularlytrueofschoolsforveryyoungchildren.Over95percentofnurseryschoolteachers,forexample,werefemale.Thesituationwassimilarlyone-sidedinprimaryschools,whereover90percentofteacherswerewomen.Menandwomenweremoreequallyrepresentedintea
3、chinginstitutionscateringforolderchildrenandyoungadults:secondaryschoolsandcolleges.Collegelectures,forexample,were50percentfemaleand50percentmale.Malesheldalargershareofteachingpostsinhigher-levelinstitutions.Thiswasparticularlytrueforuniversities,wheretwiceasmanymaleswereteaching
4、staffthanfemales.Overall,womenweremorelikelytoholdthemoretypicallymaternalroleofteachingyoungchildren.Males,ontheotherhand,predominatedinthehigherstatusteachingroleofuniversitylecturer.Model2Thechartcomparesthepercentageofmaleandfemaleteachersindifferenteducationalsettingsfromnurse
5、ryschooltouniversity.Significantdifferencesbetweenmenandwomenareevident.Womenheldnearlyalloftheteachingpostsinnurseryandprimaryschoolsandthemajorityofpostsinsecondaryschools(approximately56percent).Theyheldthesamepercentageofpostsasdidmenatcollegelevel.However,asmallerproportion6of
6、womenheldteachingpositionsattraininginstitutes,and,atuniversities,femalelecturerswereoutnumberedbymalesbyroughlytwotoone.Formen,thepatternofemploymentwasthereverse.Only2percentofnurseryschoolteachersand10percentofprimaryteachersweremen.Theyweremoreequallyrepresentedatsecondaryandco
