3、areisrising,thoughlessrapidlythanearlierintheyear,whileinvestmentinnonresidentialstructurecontinuestobeweek.Employersremainreluctanttoaddtopayrolls.Housingstartscontinuetobedepressed.Longer--terminflationexpectationshaveremainedstable.butmeasuresofunderlyinginfla
4、tionhavetrendedlowerinrecentquarters.Consistentwithitsstatutorymandate,theCommitteeseekstofostermaximumemploymentandpricestability.Currently,theunemploymentrateiselevated,andmeasuresofunderlyinginflationaresomewhatlow,relativetolevelsthattheCommitteejudgestobecon
5、sistent,overthelongerrun,withitsdualmandate.AlthoughtheCommitteeanticipatesgradualreturntohigherlevelsofresourceutilizationinacontextofpricestability,progresstowarditsobjectiveshasbeendisappointinglyslow.Topromoteastrongerpaceofeconomicrecoveryandtohelpensurethat
6、inflation,overtime,isatlevelsconsistentwithitsmandate,theCommitteedecidedtodaytoexpanditsholdingsofsecurities.TheCommitteewillmaintainitsexistingpolicyofreinvestingprincipalpaymentsfromitssecuritiesholdings.Inaddition,theCommitteeintendstopurchaseafurther600billi
7、ondollarsoflonger--termTreasurysecuritiesbytheendofthesecondquarterof2011,apaceofabout75billiondollarspermonth.TheCommitteewillregularlyreviewthepaceofitssecuritiespurchasesandtheoverallsizeoftheasset--purchaseprograminlightofincominginformationandwilladjustthepr
