2、h,wedevelopedsoftwaretotrackalle-mailactivitywithinamidsizeexecutiverecruitingfirm.Wealsonegotiatedaccesstothreeseparatedatasetsincluding:(1)projectlevelaccountingmeasuresofrevenues,(2)surveysofindividualperceptionsofinformationtechnologyandinformationsharing,
3、and(3)directobservationofe-mailactivityoveraperiodofsixmonths.Wefoundstatisticallysignificantrelationshipsbetweenthestructureofarecruiter’sinternale-mailnetworkandsuccessatbothlandingandexecutingcontracts.Inadditiontotraditionalsocialnetworkanalysistechniques,
4、wealsoconsidereddynamicmeasuresofe-mailbehaviorsandflows.Sendingsmallere-mailswasassociatedwithbetterperformanceinbothlandingandexecutingcontracts,whilereceivingprompterresponsesfromcolleagueswasassociatedwithsuccessinexecuting,butnotlandingcontracts.Theseresu
5、ltsprovidesomeofthefirststatisticalevidencethatinformationflowsanduseofinformationtechnologyaffectindividualproductivityatthedesktoplevel.Theyalsodemonstratehowmeasuresofinformationbehaviorsandflowscancomplementtraditionaltechniquesofsocialnetworkanalysistopro
