2、t-of-townersfurthercontributetotheincreaseoftrafficcongestion.Thetypeoftheplannedactivity,timeofaday,dayoftheweek,currentcongestionofparticularroutes,knowledgeofcitystreets,andpotentiallyavailableparkingplaceshavesignificantinfluenceonachosenparkingsearchstrategy.Duringthepasttwodeca
3、des,trafficauthoritiesinmanycities(Helsinki,Cologne,Mainz,Stuttgart,Wiesbaden,Aalborg,Hague)havestartedtoinformandguidedriverstoparkingfacilitieswithreal-timevariablemessagesigns(directionalarrows,namesoftheparkingfacilities,status,numberofavailableparkingspaces,etc.).Parkingguidance
4、systemshelpdriverstofindvacantparkingspaceswhentheyarealreadyonthenetwork,andapproachingtheirfinaldestination.Driverseasilybecomefamiliarwiththeparkingguidancesystems,andmajorityofthemuse,trustandappreciatethehelpofthesystems.Throughoutthisresearchtheconceptsoftheparkingreservationsy
5、stemandparkingrevenuemanagementsystemareproposed.Suchsystemswouldhelpdriverstofindavacantparkingspaceevenbeforebeginningtheirtrip.Theproposed“intelligent”parkingspaceinventorycontrolsystemthatisbasedonthecombinationofsimulation,optimizationtechniques,andfuzzylogicmakes“online”decisio
6、nsastowhethertorejectoracceptanewrequestforparking.Theproposedmethodologycouldbeappliedforparkinglotsandparkinggaragesincitiesandatthebiginternationalairports.2METHODOLOGYInmajorityofcitiesthroughouttheworlddriverspayforusingdifferentparkingfacilities.Insomeinstances,trafficcongestio
7、ncanbesignificantlyreducedasaresultofparkingprice.Differentparkingpricingstrategiesshouldbeapartofthecomprehensivesolutionapproachtothecomplextrafficcongestionproblems.Forexample,trafficauthorities,localgovernmentsandprivatesectorcouldintroducehigherparkingtariffsforsolodriversorforl
