6、otivationallevelofanalysis.Thatfocushasrecentlybeencalledintoquestionbyscholarsconcernedwiththeprocessthroughwhichmovementorganizationsexpandtheirranksandmobilizesupportfortheircauses.Yet,asUseem(1975)andZaldandMcCarthy(1979)havenoted,therehasbeenlittlesystemat
7、icresearchconductedonthedetailsoftheinfluenceprocess.Drawingondataderivedfromasynthesisofexistingresearchandtwoprimarysources,thispaperattemptstoshedgreaterempiricalandtheoreticallightonthemovementrecruitmentprocess.Thefindingsindicatethatdifferentialrecruitmen
