5、wellthefirmmanagesthetechnologyrelativetoitscompetitors.Itis,however,moretoeffectivemanufacturingmanagementthanmerelymanagingtechnology;namelyconfiguringtheentiremanufacturingsysteminordertosupportthefirm’scompetitivepriorities,whichultimatelysettlesthefirm’scompetitiveability(Hill,1995).Thebasiccom
6、petitiveprioritiesaregenerallyconsideredbyacademicsandprofessionalstobequality,delivery,price,andflexibility.Notablyflexibilityhaslatelygainedmomentumasamajorcompetitivepriority,anevolutionthatmostlikelywillcontinuewithever-increasingchangesinthemarketplace(e.g.DeMeyeretal.,1989).Althoughtheinfluenc
