3、conceptofastrictlycontractivequantumchannelinordertoconstructmathematicalmodelsofphysicallyrealizable,i.e.,nonideal,quantumregistersandcomputers.Strictlycontractivechannelsaresimpleenough,yetexhibitveryinterestingfeatures,whicharemeaningfulfromthephysicalpointofview.Inpart

4、icular,theyallowustoincorporatethecrucialassumptionoffiniteprecisionofallexperimentallyrealizableoperations.Strictcontractivityalsohelpsusgaininsightintothethermodynamicsofnoisyquantumevolutions(approachtoequilibrium).Ourinvesti-gationintothermodynamicsfocusesontheentropy-e

5、nergybalanceinquantumregistersandcomputersundertheinfluenceofstrictlycontractivenoise.Usingentropy-energymethods,weareabletoappraisethethermodynamicalresourcesneededtomaintainre-liableoperationofthecomputer.Wealsoobtainestimatesofthelargesttolerableerrorrate.Finally,weexplo
