4、rightbykeepingcopyingofthisarticletotheessentialminimum.Anyrequestsforfurthercopiesshouldbesenttotheauthor.AbstractCollaborativeSoftwareEngineering(CSE)isarapidlygrowingfieldofresearch,withcommercialtoolsstartingtoincorporatenewcollaborativefeaturesintotheircurrentlysingle-user
5、products.Wehaveundertakenanempiricalevaluationtoinvestigatetheenvisagedbenefitsofcode-levelcollaborationfortoolsthatwehavedeveloped.Resultsofourevalua-tionshowthatfortwotypicalprogrammingscenarios,collaborativetoolsachievetaskcompletionratesthatareatleasttwiceasfastastheircon-v
6、entionalcounterparts.Additionally,foranumberofsubjectiveaspects,theparticipantswerestronglyinfavourofusingthenewtools.Fromtheseresults,weareencouragedtocontinuedevelopingourcollaborativetools,andtoinvestigateotheraspectsofsuchtoolswithinthecontextofCSE.Contents1Introduction32B
