5、ontalcontrolcanbedevelopedandwhichperformancemeasurementmechanismstoconsider.IntroductionThereisagrowingbodyofliteratureontheofferingofsupplementaryservicesinthesupplychain(AndersonandNarus,1995;Eppenetal.,1991)ingeneral,andtheserviceofferingsofthirdpar
6、tylogisticsserviceprovidersinparticular(LiebandRandall,1996).Theprimaryreasoningbehindexpansionofhorizontalthirdpartyalliancesinthesupplychain,throughsupplementaryservices,isthecustomizationofproduct/serviceofferingstocustomers.Byexpandingservicesathird
7、partyisincreasinglyfacilitatedtorespondtospecificcustomerdemandsandcanalsoaccompanyexistingproductsandserviceswith``add-on''services(Pine,1993;GilmoreandPine,1997).Asecondarydriverbehindsupplementaryservicesisofaninternalnature;offeringsupplementaryserv
