1、IeohMingPeiIeohMingPeiwasborninChinain1917,thesonofaprominentbanker.AtageseventeenhecametotheUnitedStatestostudyarchitecture,andreceivedaBachelorofArchitecturedegreefromMITin1940.Upongraduation,hewasawardedtheAlphaRhoChiMedal,theMITTravelingFellowship,andtheAIAGoldMedal.In1942,Pe
2、ienrolledintheHarvardGraduateSchoolofDesign,wherehestudiedunderWalterGropius;sixmonthslater,hevolunteeredhisservicestotheNationalDefenseResearchCommitteeinPrinceton.PeireturnedtoHarvardin1944andcompletedhisM.Archin1946,simultaneouslyteachingonthefacultyasanassistantprofessor(1945
3、–48).AwardedtheWheelwrightTravelingFellowshipbyHarvardin1951,hetraveledextensivelyinEngland,France,Italy,andGreece.I.M.PeibecameanaturalizedcitizenoftheUnitedStatesin1954.In1948,WilliamZeckendorfinvitedMr.PeitoacceptthenewlycreatedpostofDirectorofArchitectureatWebb&Knapp,arealest
4、atedevelopmentcorporation,resultinginmanylarge-scalearchitecturalandplanningprojectsacrossthecountry.In1955heformedthepartnershipofI.M.Pei&Associates,whichbecameI.M.Pei&Partnersin1966,andPeiCobbFreed&Partnersin1989.Thepartnershipreceivedthe1968ArchitecturalFirmAwardoftheAmericanI
5、nstituteofArchitects.Mr.Pei'spersonalarchitecturalstyleblossomedwithhisdesignfortheNationalCenterforAtmosphericResearchinBoulder,Colorado(1961–67).HesubsequentlygainedbroadnationalattentionwiththeEastBuildingoftheNationalGalleryofArtinWashington(1968–78)andtheJohnF.KennedyLibrary
6、inBoston(1965–79)—twoofsomethirtyinstitutionalprojectsexecutedbyMr.Pei,includingchurch,hospital,andmunicipalbuildings,aswellasschools,libraries,andoveradozenmuseums.HismostrecentworksincludetheMihoMuseuminShiga,Japan,theGrandLouvreinParis,theMortonH.MeyersonSymphonyCenterinDallas
