2、Yetthereisevidencethatpeoplewithbrainlesionsaresometimesmoreresistanttothisso-calledmentalseteffect.Thisinspiredustoinvestigatewhetherthementalseteffectcanbereducedbynon-invasivebrainstimulation.60healthyright-handedparticipantswereaskedtotakeaninsightproblemsolvingtaskwhilerecei
3、vingtranscranialdirectcurrentstimulation(tDCS)totheanteriortemporallobes(ATL).Only20%ofparticipantssolvedaninsightproblemwithshamstimulation(control),whereas3timesasmanyparticipantsdidso(p=0.011)withcathodalstimulation(decreasedexcitability)oftheleftATLtogetherwithanodalstimulati
4、on(increasedexcitability)oftherightATL.Wefoundhemisphericdifferencesinthatastimulationmontageinvolvingtheoppositepolaritiesdidnotfacilitateperformance.OurfindingsareconsistentwiththetheorythatinhibitiontotheleftATLcanleadtoacognitivestylethatislessinfluencedbymentaltemplatesandth
