2、asbeenbothwidelytakenupandsubjectedtoconsiderablecriticism.Theauthorsreviewandassesstheprincipalcritiquesevidentintheliterature,arguingtheyfallintoeightcategories.TheyconcludetheRBV’scoremessagecanwithstandcriticismfromfiveofthesequitewellprovidedtheRBV’svari-ables
3、,boundaries,andapplicabilityareadequatelyspecified.Threecritiquesthatcannotbereadilydismissedcallforfurthertheorizingandresearch.TheyarisefromtheindeterminatenatureoftwooftheRBV’sbasicconcepts—resourceandvalue—andthenarrowconceptualizationofafirm’scom-petitiveadvan
4、tage.Astheirsuggestionsforthisworkindicate,theauthorsfeeltheRBVcommunityhasclungtoaninappropriatelynarrowneoclassicaleconomicrationality,therebydiminishingitsopportunitiesforprogress.Theauthors’suggestionsmayassistwithdevelopingtheRBVintoamoreviabletheoryofcompetit
