3、fertilityofsalt-a®ectedsoilshavenotbeenwellunderstoodunderawinterwheat(TriticumaestivumL.)-maize(ZeamaysL.)annualdoublecroppingsystem.A¯eldexperimentwasestablishedin1985onaCambosolattheQuzhouExperimentalStation,ChinaAgriculturalUniversity,toinvestigatetheresponsesofsoilfertilitytofer
4、tilizerandtillagepractices.Theexperimentwasestablishedasanorthogonaldesignwithninetreatmentsofdi®erenttillagemethodsand/orfertilizerapplications.InOctober2001,compositesoilsampleswerecollectedfromthe0{20and20{40cmlayersandanalyzedforsoilfertilityindices.Theresultsshowedthatafter17yea
5、rsofnitrogen(N)andphosphorous(P)fertilizerandstrawapplications,soilorganicmatter(SOM)¡1inthetoplayerwasincreasedsigni¯cantlyfrom7.00to9.30{13.14gkginthe0{20cmlayerandfrom4.00to5.48{7.75¡1gkginthe20{40cmlayer.SoiltotalN(TN)wasincreasedsigni¯cantlyfrom0.37and0.22to0.79{1.11and0.61{0.73
6、¡1gNkginthe0{20and20{40cmlayers,respectively,withNfertilizerapplication;however,therewasnoapparente®ectofstrawapplicationonTNcontent.TheamountsofsoiltotalP(TP)andrapidlyavailableP(RP)wereincreased¡1¡1signi¯cantlyfrom0.60to0.67{1.31gkginthe0{20cmlayerandfrom0.52to0.60{0.73gkginthe20{4
7、0cmlayerwithPfertilizerapplication,butweredecreasedwithcombinedNandPfertilizerapplications.TheapplicationsofNandPfertilizerssigni¯cantlyincreasedthecropyields,butdecreasedtherapidlyavailablepotassium(RK)inthesoil.Strawreturncouldonlymeetpartofthecroppotassiumrequirements.Ourresultsal
