3、otionoffluidsandsolidparticleswithouttheuseofmodels.Thefluid–particlemotionisresolvedbythemethodofdistributedLagrangemultipliersandtheinterfaceismovedbythemethodoflevelsets.Thepresentworkfillsagapsincetherearenoothertheoreticalmethodsavailabletodescribethenonlinearfluiddynamicsofcapillaryattract
4、ion.Twodifferentcasesofconstrainedmotionsoffloatingparticlesarestudiedhere.Inthefirstcase,westudymotionsoffloatingspheresundertheconstraintthatthecontactangleisfixedbytheYoung–Duprelaw;thecontactlinemustmovewhenthe´contactangleisfixed.Inthesecondcase,westudymotionsofdisks(shortcylinders)withflatend
5、sinwhichthecontactlineispinnedatthesharpedgeofthedisk;thecontactanglemustchangewhenthedisksmoveandthisanglecanchangewithinthelimitsspecifiedbytheGibbsextensiontotheYoung–Duprelaw.Thefactthat´sharpedgedparticlesclingtointerfacesindependentofparticlewettabilityisnotfullyappreciatedandneedsstudy
6、.Thenumericalschemepresentedhereisatpresenttheonlyonewhichcanmovefloatingparticlesindirectsimulation.Wesimulatetheevolutionofsingleheavier-than-liquidspheresanddiskstotheirequilibriumdepthandtheevolutiontoclustersoftwoandfoursspheresandtwodisksunderlateralforces,collectivelycalledcapillaryatt
