3、hascometoanewperiodofwartime,andthewarhasbeenexertingcontinuingeffectsontheAmericanculture,asvariouskindsofmediahavebeentryingtorepresentthewarfromdifferentperspectives.Redeployment,asashortstorycollectionbytheIraqwarveteranPhilKlay,isonesuccessfulliteraryrepresentationofthewa
4、r.Thebookhaswonthe2014AmericanNationalBookAwardforfictionandhasreceivedmuchpraisefromboththepressandtheliteraryacademia.However,ofallthepreviousresearchhomeandabroad,fewhavetreatedtheshortstorycollectionasanarrativeentiretyandexploredtheinteractionsbetweentheauthor,thetext,and
5、thereaderinthecontextofthecontemporaryAmericanwarculture.ThepresentthesisdrawingfromJamesPhelan’sRhetoricalNarrativeTheory,takesthecharacternarrationinthecollectionasastartingpointandexploresthedynamiccommunicationsbetweentheauthorofthenarrativeandthereader,withconsiderationof
6、contemporaryAmericanwarcultureasacontextandtheauthor’sintentionintheliterarywriting.Thestudyindicatesthatthethreeaspectsofcharacternarrations—theveterans’battlefieldexperience,theirpredicamentsaftercomingbackhome,aswellasthereconstructioninIraq—areactuallyanIraqwarnarrativecon
7、structedbytheauthor,basedonhispersonalinvolvementinthewar.Thethreeaspectscanbeconsideredasthethreeconnotationsof“Redeployment”,andhasthusbecomethebasisoftheframeworkofthethesis’sMainBody.Thewholethesisconsistsofthreeparts:theIntroduction,theMainBodyandtheConclusion.Thebriefint
