3、ustainabledevelopmentresearchandcarefulplanning,theCanadiangovernment®nallydraftedthenationalMineralsandMetalsPolicyoftheGo6ernmentofCanada:PartnershipsforSustainableDe6elopment(1996),whichsetsouttheCanadiangovernment'srole,objectives,andstrategiesinareasofjurisdictio
4、nformakingtheconceptofsustainabledevelopmentoperationalinitsminingindustry,andseekstocreatealegacythatCanadianscanpasstofuturegenerations.Sinceitsimplementation,theprimaryresponseofbothnationalminingorganizationsandselectedCanadianminingcompaniestothechallengeofsustai
5、nabledevelopmenthasbeenimprovedplanning,andthedevelopmentofpoliciesthataddresskeyenvironmentalandsocioeconomicissuesandwhichbuildupontheprinciplesaddressedintheMineralsandMetalsPolicyoftheGo6ernmentofCanada.Itisconcludedthatmostoftheattemptsmadethusfarbyboththegovernm
6、entandtheminingindustrytoaddressminingsustainabledevelopmentthroughpolicy-makinghavebeenmajorsuccesses,butfurtherimprovementscanbeachievedifadditionalindustry-governmentpartnershipsareformed,morecommunityworkshopsareheld,andselectedenvironmentalmanagementpracticesarer
