2、offiberlaserisaveryimportantareaforthenonlinearopticalresearch,whichisregardedasoneofthekeytechnologiesforthegenerationofhighqualityultra—shortopticalpulsethatisneededforthemodernlongdistance,ultra-highbitrateopticalcommunicationsystems.Althoughitispossibletoobtainpicosecondorsub-picosecondoptical
3、pulseinadispersiondecreasingfiberbyadiabaticsolitoncompression,theoutputpulseisnotsatisfyingduetothewidepedestalaccompaniedwiththepulse.Thepedestalisharmfulbecauseitcanleadtocrosstalkbetweenpulsesinacommunicationsystem.However,NonlinearOpticalLoopMirror(NOLM)canbeusedtosuppressthatpedestalandcompr
4、esspulsesmoreproperly.Moreover,NOLM,whichcanbeusedasasaturableabsorber,hasmanyimportantapplicationsofpassivemodelocktechnologiesinopticalfiberlasers,especiallyinEr—droppedfiberlasers.Inthisthesis,NOLMconstructedbydispersiondecreasingfiber(DDF-NOLM)isstudied.Thepropagationpropertiesoftheopticalpuls
5、einDDF—NOLMarediscusseddetailedly,includingthepulseevolutioninthefiberloopmirror,thecompressionfactors,thepedestalenergyandthepeakpoweroftheoutputpulse.AnewtypeofNOLMisalsopresentedthatconstructedbyasegmentofconventionalsing!emodefiberandasegmentofdispersiondecreasingfiber.Theopticalswitchingprope
6、rtiesandthepropagationsofopticalpulsesinthisnewNOLMarealsostudiedSomeusefulconclusionsareachieved.Thethesisconsistsof5chapters:Chapter1:ShowsthebasicstructureofNOLM,presentstheapplicationsandtheresearchhistoryoftheNOLM.Chapter2:AnalyzesthemechanismsoftheNOLM,includingthepropagationequationsofoptic
