2、localinhabitants(nighttimepopulation)butalsodailycommutersandotherpeoplewhotakepartineconomicactivities(daytimepopulation)．Thelatterhasimportanteffectondowntowninthefieldofeconomy,society,culture，environmentandetc．Inthedevelopingmeaning,daytimepopulationhasabiggerandmoreactiveroleindowntownthannigh

3、ttimepopulation．Thestudyofdaytimepopulationcarlbetracedto1930sinEurope．Nowadays．thepositiveresearchandapplicationabroadhavematured．However,inChinathoughwearefamiliarwi也thedefinitionofDaytimePopulation．itisdifficdttocountitsnumberanditsresearchisstillatthebasicstage．Luwandistrictisatypicalcentralreg

4、ioninShanghaiwithdistinctcharacterofdowntowndaytimepopulation．SoItakethisregionasthestudyexampleandgettheprofileofdaytimeworkers,basedonthedatafromeconomiccensusandthefLrstandsecondbasicunitsc圮nsusbymainlyusingspatialanalysismethodsandstatisticalmethods．Thentheeffectbroughtaboutbythecharacterofdayt

5、imepopulationisalsoevaluatedandsomeproperadvicesareputforwardaccordingtoit．Throughthestudy,thethesisconcludessomebasiccharactersasbelow,asShanghai’Scentraldistrict,thenumberofdaytimepopulationinLuWandistrictishuge，about517．2thousandpeople(325．2thousandpeoplea碥daytimeworkers)．However,theratioofdayto

6、nightpopulationisonly1．6，whichisverylow,especiallycomparedwithotherdevelopedforeigncountries．It’snecessarytoreduceresidentialpopulationandraisethatratio．Theeducationlevelofdaytimeworkersisrelatively城曲，andtheircommutingdistanceisnotfar．Theincomingcommutersareyounger．Thestructureofemploymentofdaytime
