3、.Itisthestoryofanewworldthatbecameafriendandliberatoroftheoldastoryofaslave-holdingsocietythatbecameaservantoffreedomthestoryofapowerthatwentintotheworldtoprotectbutnotpossesstodefendbutnottoconquer.ItistheAmericanstory.Astoryofflawedandfalliblepeopleunitedacrossth

4、egenerationsbygrandandenduringideals.ThegrandestoftheseidealsisanunfoldingAmericanpromisethateveryonebelongsthateveryonedeservesachancethatnoinsignificantpersonwaseverborn.Americansarecalledupontoenactthispromiseinourlivesandinourlawsandthoughournationhassometimesh

5、altedandsometimesdelayedwemustfollownoothercourse.ThroughmuchofthelastcenturyAmericasfaithinfreedomanddemocracywasarockinaragingsea.Nowitisaseeduponthewindtakingrootinmanynations.Ourdemocraticfaithismorethanthecreedofourcountryitistheinbornhopeofourhumanityanidealw

6、ecarrybutdonotownatrustwebearandpassalongandevenafternearly225yearswehavealongwayyettotravel.Whilemanyofourcitizensprosperothersdoubtthepromiseeventhejusticeofourowncountry.TheambitionsofsomeAmericansarelimitedbyfailingschoolsandhiddenprejudiceandthecircumstancesof

7、theirbirthandsometimesourdifferencesrunsodeepitseemsweshareacontinentbutnotacountry.Wedonotacceptthisandwewillnotallowit.OurunityourunionistheseriousworkofleadersandcitizensineverygenerationandthisismysolemnpledgeIwillworktobuildasinglenationofjusticeandopportunity
