4、anagement.TheHuaiRiverBasinisarepresentativebasinfacedwithseriousenvironmentalproblemsduetohighwaterpollutionandnumerouswaterprojects.ComprehensiveinvestigationofthefactorsaffectingriverecosystemhealthisanurgentprecursortothesuccessfulmanagementoftheHuaiRiverBasin.Basedonaseriesofaquatice
5、cosystemindicators,monitoringandstandards,suchasphytoplankton,zooplanktonandbenthicmacroinvertebratedata,anassessmentframeworkofriverecosystemhealthisproposedusingamulti-stepgraycorrelationevaluationmethod.Environmentalimpactfactorsincludingclimate,landcover,edaphicfactors,hydrology,water
6、projectsandwaterqualitywereidentifiedusingtheKruskal-Wallistestanddistance-basedredundancyanalysismethod.Theecosystemwasfoundtobesub-healthywith44%(31/71)ofsitesinahealthycondition,51%(36/71)sub-healthyand5%(4/71)unhealthy.Climateandhydrologywerethedominantfactorsthattogethercontributed37
7、.5%,24.1%and6.9%ofthevariationinphytoplankton,zooplanktonandbenthicmacroinvertebrates,respectively.Themainvariablesaffectingvariationwereminimumtemperature,relativehumidity,solarradiation,andthemagnitude,frequency,durationandtimingofmonthlyrunoff.Together,thesevaria
