5、gyisfuelcells,e.g.,thepolymerelectrolytemembrane(PEM)fuelcellwhichuseshydrogenasafuelandemitsonlyH2O.However,reforminghydrocarbonfuelstoproducetheneededhydrogenyieldsreformatestreamscontainingCO2aswellasCO,whichistoxictothePEMfuelcellatconcentrationsabove100ppm.AstheamountofCOpermittedtore
6、achthefuelcellincreases,theperformanceofthePEMfuelcelldecreasesuntilitultimatelystopsfunctioning.Thewater-gas-shift(WGS)reaction,CO+H2ODH2+CO2,providesamethodforextractingtheenergyfromthetoxicCObyconvertingitintousableH2alongwithCO2whichcanbetoleratedbythefuelcell.Althoughawellestablishedi
