2、ndenergycriteriahavebeenthemainmotivationsfordevelopingregenerativedriveconvertersforelevators[1].Abetterperformingsolutionforpowersmoothingcanbeeasilyfoundbyusingasupercapacitor-basedstoragedevice,connectedtotheintermediarycircuitofavariable-speed-drives

3、ystem.Inthispaper,powerandenergyconsiderationsarebeingaccountedforinthedesignofthestoragetankandre-gardingthemaximumpowerdemandfromthefeedingnetwork.Forthepower-conversioncircuit,whichisnecessarytocompen-satethevoltagevariationsofthesupercapacitorsduringc

4、hargeanddischarge,ahigh-efficiencyconvertertopologyisproposed,whichallowsthebidirectionnalenergyflowundersoft-commu-tationconditions.Additionallyitoffersagoodflexibilityfortheoptimalsizingofthesupercapacitorvoltagelevel.Thetypicalbe-haviorofthespecialconv
