2、NationalLaboratory(ORNL)willbethemostimportantnewneutronscatteringfacilityintheUnitedStates.NeutronscatteringinstrumentsfortheSNSwillrequirelargeareadetectorswithfastresponse(<1microsecond),highefficiencyoverawiderangeofneutronenergies(0.1to10eV),andlowgammaraysensitivity.Wearecurrently6develop

3、ingareaneutrondetectorsbasedonacombinationofaLiF/ZnS(Ag)scintillatorscreencoupledtoawavelength-shiftingfiberopticreadoutarray.A25x25cmprototypedetectoriscurrentlyunderdevelopment.InitialtestsattheIntensePulsedNeutronSourceattheArgonneNationalLaboratoryhavedemonstratedgoodimagingpropertiescouple

4、dwithverylowgammaraysensitivity.Theresponsetimeofthisdetectorisapproximately1microsecond.Detailsofthedesignandtestresultsofthedetectorwillbepresented.PositionSensitiveDetectorAprototype25x25-cmpositionsensitivedetectorhasbeendesignedandconstructed.6Thedetectorusesascintillatorscreenfabricatedfr

5、omamixtureofLiF/ZnS(Ag)powdersheldinanepoxymatrixAphotographofthedetectorandfiberopticsreadoutarrayisshowninFigure1.Theneutronscintillatorscreen,fiberopticsreadoutandphotomultipliertubesaremountedinanaluminumlight-tightenclosure.Neutronsenterthedetectorthrougha0.125-inchthickcoverplate.Anarrayo
