2、Accepted10May2005AbstractFrettingfatiguebehavioroftitaniumalloy,Ti6Al4V,wasinvestigatedinambientlaboratoryandunderacontrolledenvironmentconsistingofsyntheticseawater.Testswereperformedoverawiderangeofthemaximumaxialstressesrangingfrom380to760MPatoexaminebothlowandhighcycle

3、fatigueregimes.Itwasfoundthatseawaterhadadeleteriouseffectonfrettingfatiguelifeinthelowcyclefatigueregimebutimprovedthelifeinthehighcyclefatigueregime.Thenormalizedtangentialforceshowednegligibledifferencebetweenthetwoconditions.Moredebriswasfoundonthefracturesurfaceofspec

4、imensexposedtoseawater,whichalsoresultedinlargerfrettingscarvolumeascomparedtospecimenstestedundertheambientlaboratorycondition.Analysisoftestsshowedthatbotheffectivestressandacriticalplane-basedmulti-axialfatigueparametercouldbeusedtopredictseawaterfrettingfatiguelifefrom
