4、teratureandevenAmericanliteraturemadehimoneofthebestAmericanwritersinrecentyears.EdwardP.Jones‟firstnovel,TheKnownWorld,isbasedonthelittleknownfactthatthereareblackpeoplewhoownedslavesintheAntebellumSouth.ItisthestoryofthelifeanddeathofHenryTownsend,andthecommunityinwhichhewasbornandr

5、aised—Manchester,Virginia.SincethepublicationofTheKnownWorld,ithasmadeastirinAmericanliteratureandenjoyedgreatpopularity.TheKnownWorldisthewinnerofthe2004PulitzerPrizeandtheNationalBookCriticsCircleAward.ItisamasterpiecethataplaceintheAmericanliterarycanon.Althoughthepreviousstudiesof

6、TheKnownWorldathomeandabroadareabundant,fewresearchesmakeanalysisofthisnovelonthebasisofthepowerofFoucault.Therefore,aninterpretationofTheKnownWorld,whichattemptstoenrichanddeepenthestudyofworksofEdwardP.Jones,willbegivenunderFoucauldiananalysisandwiththemethodofclosereading.Thisthesi
