4、istoexaminetheimpactoftheseinitiativesonInteriorCommunications(IC)DataNetworksandofferadesignstrategyforthefuturetoensureindividualmissioncriticalnetworkandsystemrequirementsarepreserved.Theconceptsofnetworkintegration,federation,andseparationarediscusse

5、dfromaholisticshipboardsystemsperspective.ThecurrentstateofICDataNetworksonmostshipclassesisthenexplainedtohelpdemonstratetheneedforastandardmissioncriticalnetworkdesignandimplementationprocess.AroadmapthatdepictstheevolutionofICDataNetworksbyshipclassis

6、providedalongwitharecommendedendstateforeach.INTRODUCTIONTherehavebeenmanymissioncriticalshipboardnetworkdesigns,architectures,andconceptsintroducedonUSNavyshipsoverthelasttentofifteenyears;somanyinfactthateachshipclassnowbasicallyhasauniquedesign,andins

7、omecasesevenmultiplevariationsofanoriginal,baselinearchitecture.ThisisparticularlytrueforthenewershipclassessuchastheLPD17Ship-WideAreaNetwork(SWAN)andtheLCS1&2TotalShipComputingEnvironment(TSCE).TheLPD17ClasshasalreadyfieldedfivedifferentSWANdesignsonth
