3、radicalsorreactiveoxygenspeciesintissuesofexercisinghumansandanimalswerefirstreported~30yearsago.Agreatdealhasbeenlearnedabouttheprocessesthatcangeneratethesemolecules,butthereislittleagreementonwhichareimportant,howtheyarecontrolledandtherearevirtuallynoquantitativ

4、edata.Superoxideandnitricoxidearegeneratedbyskeletalmuscleandtheirreactionsleadtoformationofsecondaryspecies.Aconsiderableamountisknownaboutcontrolofsuperoxidegenerationbyxanthineoxidaseactivity,butsimilarinformationforothergenerationsystemsislacking.Re-evaluationof

5、publisheddataindicatespotentialapproachestoquantificationofthehydrogenperoxideconcentrationinrestingandcontractingmusclecells.Suchcalculationsrevealthatduringcontractionsintracellularhydrogenperoxideconcentrationsinskeletalmusclemayonlyincreaseby~100nM.Theprimaryeff

6、ectsofthismodestincreaseappeartobein“redox”signalingprocessesthatmediatesomeoftheresponsesandadaptationsofAntioxidants&RedoxSignalingmuscletoexercise.Theseact,inpart,toincreasetheexpressionofcytoprotectiveproteins(e.g.heatshockproteinsandantioxidantenzymes)thathelpm
