3、ed,modeled,analyzed,solved,wrote,andsubmittedtheirsolutionstoanopen-endedinterdisciplinarymodelingproblemconcerningthestate-changesasso-ciatedwiththehealthofplanetEarth.Aftertheweekendofchallengingandproductivework,thesolutionpapersweresenttoCOMAPforjudgin
4、g.FiveofthepaperswerejudgedtobeOutstandingbytheexpertpanelofjudges.COMAP'sInterdisciplinaryContestinModeling(ICM)involvesstudentsworkinginteamstomodelandanalyzeanopeninterdisciplinaryproblem.Centeringitseducationalphilosophyonmathematicalmodeling,COMAPsup-
5、portstheuseofmathematicaltoolstoexplorereal-worldproblems.Itservessocietybydevelopingstudentsasproblemsolversinordertobecomebet-terinformedandpreparedascitizens,contributors,consumers,workers,andcommunityleaders.TheICMisanexampleofCOMAP'seffortsinworkingto
