5、ticquantumtheorybasedontheDiracequationhasneverbeengivenasinglecompleteandselfconsistentphysicalinterpretationwhichallphysicists¯ndsatisfactory.Moreover,itisgenerallyagreedthatthetheorymustbemodi¯edtoaccountfortheelectronmass,butthereishardlyagreementonhowtogoabou
6、tit.Thispaperreviewsandextendsresultsfromalineofresearch(Ref.[1{7])aimedatclarifyingtheDiractheoryandsimplifyingitsmathematicalformulation.Ofcourse,anysuchimprovementinsousefulatheorywouldbevaluableinitself.Buttheultimategoalistoachieveinsightintothestructureofthe
7、theorywhichidenti¯esthosefeaturesresponsibleforitsamazingresults,aswellasfeatureswhichmightbemodi¯edtoimproveit.ThecentralresultofthisresearchisaformulationoftheDiracspinorwavefunctionwhichrevealsthegeometricalandphysicalinterpretationofallitscomponents.Thismakesi
