5、emarkersinspecificcontexts,sometadiscourseisalsoknownasmetadiscoursemarkers.Thepresentstudyfocusesonmetadiscoursemarker“Buguo”inHongLouMenganditstwoEnglishversions.ItaimsatexploringitsspecificfunctionsinHongLouMengandhowitisrepresentedindifferentlanguagesanddifferentt

6、exts.WiththehelpofParaConcsoftwareprogram,theauthorestablishesaPCCEofHongLouMeng.Theresearchmethodadoptedinthisstudyisprimarilycorpus-driven,andallthefollowingmajorfindingsaredrawnfromthecorpus.Firstly,metadiscoursemarker“Buguo”mainlyhastwofunctionalcategories:interac

7、tivefunctionandinteractionalfunction.Threesubcategoriesarefoundunderthecategoryofinteractivefunction:cohesivemarker,adversativemarkeranddegreemarker;andtwofunctionsunderthecategoryofinteractionalfunction,namely,attitudemarkerandhedges.Secondly,mostfunctionsof“Buguo”ar

8、erepresentedinthetwoEnglishversions.Butallofthesefunctionsarefoundwithcertaindegreeofomissioninthetranslations.Thirdly,varia
