2、ingandInstrumentationDrawing(P&ID)tellswhattheydo.P&IDs“show1theinterconnectionofprocessequipmentandtheinstrumentationusedtocontroltheprocess”.Setsofsymbolsareusedtodepictmechanicalequipment,piping,pipingcomponents,valves,equipmentdriversandinstrumentationandcontrols.Thesesymbolsare
3、assembledonthedrawinginamannerthatclearlydefinestheprocess.Theinstrumentationandcontrol(I&C)symbolsusedinP&IDsaregenerallybasedonISA-5.1-1984-(R1992),InstrumentationSym-bolsandIdentification.2ThisbookwillaidinsolvingthelongexistingandcontinuingproblemofconfusinginformationonP&IDs.Th
4、efactthatthereisconfusioncanbeunderstoodbecausetherereallyisnouniversalstandardthatspecifieswhatinformationshouldbeincludedonaP&IDoreven,forthatmatter,themeaningofthelettersP&ID.Youmayknowexactlywhat“P”means,orwhat“D”meansorwhataP&IDcontains,butthepersoninthefacilitydowntheroadproba
5、blydoesn’tagree.Forinstance,the“P”inP&IDmaystandforPipingorProcess.The“I”referstoInstrumentorInstru-mentation.The“D”isforDrawingorDiagram.P&IDsmayevenbecalled“FlowDiagrams”,whicharenottobeconfusedwithProcessFlowDiagramsdiscussedinthepreviouschapter.P&IDsaresometimescalled“FlowSheets
6、”,atermoftenprecededbythedepartmentthatiniti-atedordevelopedthem,like“Engineering”,or“Controls”,orotherdescriptors.Inthisbook,forsimplicity,wewillrefertothedocumentbytheacronym,P&ID.Thereisnouniversal,nationalorinternational,multi-disciplinestandardthatcoversthedevelop-mentandconten
