4、irtuallyassembleaproduct,oftenfacingproblemslikelackofknowledgeoruncertaintiesaboutproperconfiguration.Theideaofthiscontributionistoovercomesuchproblemsbyenhancingconfiguratortoolswithcommunityfunctionalities.Thepaperdiscusseshowcommunitiescaninfluenceands

5、upportcustomersanditdrawsafirstframeworkforacollaborativeconfiguratortool,whichenablescustomerstohelpeachother.1.IntroductionForbusiness-to-businessrelationshipscollaborativeworkhasbecomemoreandmoreusual.Supportedbycomputersystemsdifferententerprisescanint

6、eractivelyworktogetherforfulfillingacommonprojectandforachievinganagreedgoal.Evenforthepurposeofdevelopinganddesigningproducts,computersystemscanbringtogethermembersofdifferententerprisesinavirtualcollaborativeworkspace.InthispaperIwillconcentrateonthecomp

7、utersupportedcollaborationfordesigninganddevelopingphysicalproducts(Mishraetal.,1997;Reichetal.,1999).ButindifferencetotheusualapproachesIwanttogoastepfurtherandintegrateintotheprocessofproductdevelopmentnotonlydifferententerprisesbutalsothecommunityofcust
