4、dthmanagement,InternetoverATM.1INTRODUCTIONWeallhavenoticedtheunprecedentedgrowthoftheInternetoverthelastfewyears,especiallyaftertheWorldWideWebbecamesowidelypopular.Asaresult,thereisaneverincreasingvolumeofdatatracinjectedintotheInternet,whichiscontinuouslypushingtheinstalled

5、capacityoftheInternettoitslimits.ThisinstalledcapacitymustbeupgradedregularlyiftheInternetistocontinueprovidingtheuserswithacceptablequalityservice.Inordertomeetsuchgrowingcapacitydemands,theuseofAsynchronousTransferMode(ATM)technologyiscurrentlyconsideredsinceATMcande-liverhig

6、hbandwidthanditisbecomingaubiquitousinfrastructure,widelyacceptedbythepubliccarriercompanies.Infact,ATMisalreadybeingusedtotransportInternettrac.Inparticular,someInternetbackbonesuseATMlinkstointerconnecttheirroutersandmanyorganizationsuseATMintheirlocalpremisesforLANinterconn
