8、allsortsofenterprises,theinternalcomplexityofthesesystemsincreasesexponentially.Softwareproductlinesontheonehandpromiseremedybytheconscioususeofvariability,ontheotherhandcreatenewdemandsonqualityassurance.Thearticleonhandprovidesatheoreticalframeworkforevaluatingapproachestosoftwaretesting,re

10、off-the-shelforstandards-basedbusinesssoftwarehasincreasedsteadilyoverthelastfewyears.Thesimultaneoususeofmanysoftwarepackagesdevelopedin-houseaswellas(oftencustomized)off-the-shelfsoftwarehasfurtherintensifiedtheexistingintegrationproblemsofapplicationsystems.Microsoftguessesthatthepercentag
11、eofcostsforapplicationintegrationwillrisefromapprox.10-15%todayupto60%withinthenextyears(cf.[Kind04]).Manyenterprisesthereforeconsiderreplacingthe"bestofbreed"–strategywiththealternative"singlesourcing".In“bestofbreed”thealternativebestfulfillingtherequirementsoftheenterpriseisselected,irresp
