3、sreduceshandolatencyandtheloadontheinternetwork.OurdesignisbasedontheInternetProtocol(IP)andiscompatiblewiththeMobileIPstandard.Wealsopresentexperimentalresultsforthelowestlevelofthehierarchy.WeimplementedourlocalhandomechanismonUnix-basedportablecomputersandba

4、sestations,andevaluateditsperformanceonaWaveLANnetwork.Theseexperimentsshowthatourhandosarefastenoughtoavoidnoticeabledisruptionsininteractiveaudiotrac.Forexample,ourhandoprotocolcompleteslessthan10millisecondsafteramobilenodeinitiatesit.Ourmechanismalsorecover

5、sfrompacketlossessueredduringthetransitionfromonecelltoanother.ThisworkhelpsextendInternettelephonyandteleconferencingtomobiledevicesthatcommunicateoverwirelessnetworks.1IntroductionFutureinternetworkswilincludenetworksofsmallwirelesscellspopulatedbylargenumbers

6、ofportabledevices.Laptopcomputersandcellulartelephoneshaveproventheirutility,whilecontinuingadvancesinminiaturizationpromiseincreasinglyfunctionalportabledevices.Networksofsmallwirelesscellsoerhighaggregatebandwidth,supportlow-poweredmobiletransceivers,andprovid
