3、betweenmobilityanddatarate.I.IntroductionCurrently,wirelesscommunicationsystemsaredesignedforspecificdataratesandmobilitysupport.Whilehighmobilityisprovidedbypersonalcommunicationsystemsatlowdatarateswithlimitedpotentialservices,higherdataratesupto155Mb/swillb

4、esupportedbywirelessATMand/orIPsystemsforuserswithlimitedmobility.However,futuredemandsformobilecommunicationsystemswillbedominatedbytheheterogeneityofbroadbandandnarrowbandservices,whichhavetobesuppliedinin-houseandoutdoorenvironmentssimultaneously,withvaryin

5、gdegreesofmobility.TheobjectiveoftheIntegratedBroadbandMobileSystem(IBMS)[1,2]istoprovideaunifiedwayforsupportingavarietyofcommunicationclassesrangingfromhighmobilitywithlowdataratestowardsportabilityathighdataratesasanintegralfeatureofawirelesscommunicationsy
