3、nseservice.AprovisionalserviceisbeingprovidedbytheArpanetNetworkInformationCenter(NIC)andisusedbymobilepacketradioterminals,aswellasbyseveralArpanetDEC-10hosts.Extensionstotheservicearesuggestedthatwouldexpandthequeryfunctionalitytoallowmoreflexiblequeryformatsaswellasqueriesforser

5、s,suchastheArpanet[1],network-widestandardhost-addressinginformationmustbemaintainedanddistributed.Tofulfillthatneed,theArpanetNetworkInformationCenter(NIC)atSRIInternationalhasmaintained,administered,anddistributedthehostaddressingdatabasetoArpanethostssince1972[2].Themostcommonme

6、thodformaintaininganup-to-datecopyoneachhostistobulk-transfertheentiredatabasetoeachhostindividually.ThistechniquesatisfiesmosthostaddressingneedsontheArpanettoday.However,somehostsmaintainneitheracompletenoracurrentcopyofthedatabasebecauseoflimitedmemorycapacityandinfrequentproces

7、singofupdates.Inaddition,withtheexpansionoftheArpanetintotheinternetenvironment[3,4],astrongneedhasarisenfornewtechniquestoaugmentthedistributionofname/addressinformation.Onemethodcurrentlybeinginvestigatedisthedynamicdistributionofhost-addressinformationviaatransaction-based,inqui
