5、rforjust100-500attoseconds(1as=10s)willseearXiv:quant-ph/0702012v11Feb2007aratioofhydrogentooxygenofroughly1.5to1,insteadof2to1correspondingtothechemicalformulaH2O;cf.[1,2].TheexperimentsweredoneattheISISneutronspallationfacility,RutherfordAppletonLaboratory,UK.Duetothelargeenergy
6、andmomentumtransfersapplied,thedurationofaneutron-protonscat-teringeventisafractionofafemtosecondwhichisextremelyshortcomparedtocondensed-matterrelaxationtimes.Thisneweffecthasbeenconfirmedusinganindependentmethod,electron-protonComptonscattering(ECS),attheAustralianNationalUnivers
7、ity.[3,4].ECSexperimentsfromasolidpolymershowedtheexactsameshortfallinscat-◦teredelectrons(withenergyabout20-35keV;scatteringangle45)fromhydrogennuclei,comparabletotheshortfallofscatteredneutronsinaccompanyingNCSex-perimentsonthesamepolymer.Thesimilarityoftheresultsisstrikingbecau
