2、eevaluationtechniquesservesasapilotstudythatillustratesthepos-sibleutilityofthesetechniquesinevaluatingconferences.Thispaperprovidesabriefreviewoftheliteraturesurroundingrespon-siveevaluation,adescriptionoftheresponsiveevaluationmethodsappliedtothisconference,andadiscussionoftheresult
3、sandimpli-cationsofthispilotstudy.INTRODUCTIONAspartofastatewideeffortinNebraskatoimprovemathandscienceeducation,atwo-daysummerconferencewasheldinLincolnandattendedbymorethan300participants,includingschoolteachersandadministrators,statepolicymakers,andothereducationprofessionals.Theco
4、nferencefocusedonnewtechniquesforassessingstudentslearning.Thegoalsoftheconferenceincluded:(1)increasingparticipantknowledgeofalternativestrategiesforassess-inglearning,(2)providingopportunitiesfordiscussionandreflectionontheeffectivenessofsuchstrategies,and(3)increasingparticipantkno
5、wledgeofstateandnationalassessmentgoalsandmodels.Toattainthosegoals,theconferenceactivitieswerefocusedonenhancingawarenessoftheimportanceofaccurateassessmentofstudentoutcomesandaddressingthecomplexissuesinvolvedinrethinkingassessmentmethodsandtheirroleintheschoolclass-rooms.Conference
