3、.And,weshowhowtoapplyPageRanktosearchandtousernavigation.1IntroductionandMotivationTheWorldWideWebcreatesmanynewchallengesforinformationretrieval.Itisverylargeandheterogeneous.Currentestimatesarethatthereareover150millionwebpageswithadoublinglifeofles
4、sthanoneyear.Moreimportantly,thewebpagesareextremelydiverse,rangingfrom"WhatisJoehavingforlunchtoday?"tojournalsaboutinformationretrieval.Inadditiontothesemajorchallenges,searchenginesontheWebmustalsocontendwithinexperiencedusersandpagesengineeredtoma

at"documentcollections,theWorldWideWebishypertextandprovidesconsiderableauxiliaryinformationontopofthetextofthewebpages,suchaslinkstructureandlinktext.Inthispaper,wetakeadvantageofthelinkstructureof
6、theWebtoproduceaglobalimportance"rankingofeverywebpage.Thisranking,calledPageRank,helpssearchenginesandusersquicklymakesenseofthevastheterogeneityoftheWorldWideWeb.1.1DiversityofWebPagesAlthoughthereisalreadyalargeliteratureonacademiccitationanalysis
