3、gway.Foronething,insocialcommunication,notonlycangeneration,age,andstatusaffecttheusageofaddressforms,butalsohistory,nationalfeatures,socialstructureandmarriagesystemmayconstraintheutilizationofaddressforms.Foranother,whethersocialconversationgoessmoothlyornotdependsontheuse
4、oftheaddressforms,foraddressformscanbeappliedtoestablish,maintain,shorten,estrangeorendinterpersonalrelationships.Addressformsarelikeamirror.Theycanreflectdifferentidentities,occupationsandrolesofaddressersandaddressees.Thereby,doingsomeresearchesaboutaddressformsisofgreatso
5、cialsignificance.However,comparedwiththestudyofurbanaddressforms,thestudyofruraladdressformsisneglectedbyscholars,especiallyinChina.Aclearproofofthisistheimbalancebetweenthestudyofurbanaddressformsandthatofruraladdressforms.In2003,thefirstsociolinguisticslaboratorywasestabli
6、shed,whoseresearchisentitled“urbanlanguagesurvey”.Thismoveattractsmorescholarstodevotethemselvestothestudyofurbanaddressforms.Bycontrast,thestudyinruralbecomesless.What’smore,theavailabletheoriesonruraladdressformsarenotwatertight.Ofallthematerialspossessedbytheauthor,about9
7、5%arenon-empiricalones.Theymainlyexplorethetheorybymeansofintrospection,whichmakestheirtheorylackreliability.Therefore,moreeffortsareneededinthestudyofruralareas.BrownandGilman’powerandsolidaritytheoryholdsthattheprocessofemployingaddressformsreflectstheaddresserandaddressee
