2、ngedthewaydistributioncompaniesoperatetheirdistributionsystems.Thesechangesincludetheapplicationoftheintegratedlogisticsmanagementconcepttotheanalysisanddesignoftheirsupplychainsand,whatismostimportant,extensiveuseofinformationtechnologytogainacompetitiveedge.Fivemajorinformationtechno

3、logieswhichhavebecomeincreasinglycommoninpracticeare:(1)point-of-sale(POS)systems;(2)barcoding;(3)electronicdatainterchange(EDI);(4)value-addednetworks(VANs);and(5)electronicorderingsystems(EOSs).Inaddition,distributionfirmsshouldmaintaincloserelationshipsandeffectivecommunicationswith

4、theirchannel/tradingpartners,rendernecessarysupporttothemandprovidecustomerswithsatisfactoryservice.Thesehavebeendeemedthekeyfactorsfordistributors’successinmanagingtheirlogisticssystems.Thepurposeofthisarticleistoformulateanintegratedframeworkfordistributionfirmstoestablishandsoimprov

5、etheirdistributionsystems.Sinceinformationtechnologyisanimportantprerequisitetogoodlogisticsmanagement,integrationofinformationtechnologywiththelogisticsmanagementconceptispresented.Inthepresentation,relevantTaiwanesepracticesarecovered.BecausefewTaiwanesepapers[1-3]discusslogisticsman
