2、CILCHAIRBINIONDearColleagues:Overthelastfewdecades,relationshipswithindustry–includingfacultyconsultingrelationships–havebecomeincreasinglyimportanttoresearchandeducationattheUniversity.TheUniversitysupportsandencouragesoutsideconsultingrelationshipsastheyoftenprovideapublicbenefitandarevaluabletot
3、hefacultyintheirresearchandteachingactivities.BasedonquestionsdirectedtocampusandOfficeofthePresidentadministrators,ithasbecomeincreasinglyevidentthatsomefacultywhoengageinconsultingarrangementsareunclearabouttheirobligationstotheUniversityregardingintellectualpropertymatters.Forthisreason,theTechn
4、ologyTransferAdvisoryCommittee(TTAC)convenedanAdHocSubcommitteeonFacultyConsultingtoaddresstheseinquiries.Duringthepastyear,thesubcommitteereviewedStatelawandexistingUniversitypoliciesandguidelines,anddevelopedasinglecomprehensivesummarydocumentonthismatter.Theresultingdocument,GuidanceforFacultyan
5、dOtherAcademicEmployeesonIssuesRelatedtoIntellectualPropertyandConsulting,isnotnewpolicy,butasynopsisandexplanationoflongstandingUniversitypoliciesandStatelawonthistopic.Webelieveitpresentsaclear,non-technicalsummary,accessibletofaculty,otherresearchers,industry,administrators,students,andthepublic
