4、andhadhisestatesconfiscated.HeescapedtoFrance,andwhenheheardabouttheAmericanrebellionagainsttheBritish,sawBenjaminFranklininParisandofferedhisser•vicestotherebels.FranklingavehimaletterofintroductiontoGeorgeWashingtonwhoplacedhimincommandofthecavalry.Atthattimecavalrymenwereusedonlyasmessenger
5、s,andforguardduties;buttheaggressivePolesoontaughtthemhowtocharge.On11September1777,atBrandywinenearWilmington,Delaware,theBritishsurroundedanAmericanforce;andPulaskisaveditfrombeingcompletelyannihilatedbygatheringsmallgroupsofcavalrymentochargetheencirclingenemy,thusputtingtheBritishoffbalanc
6、e.StephenMoylan,whotookovertheContinentalCavalryatValleyForgewhenPulaskiresignedAlthoughsupersededbyGeneralStephenMoylaninMarch1778asChiefofCavalry,Pulaskiwasallowedtoraise3andleadaforceof300horsemenofhisown.Theseweredressedinuniformsofvarieddesign.SomewhohadservedwiththeFrenchworepartsoftheir
