4、tributedsystemforperformingvisualsurveillancepromptedthedevelopmentoftheRemoteObjectWebcamController(ROWC).Withawebcamandpersonalcomputer,ausercanuseROWCtoremotelymonitorlivevideoandarchivevideoforlaterretrieval.ThisthesisdescribestheuseoftheJava™Progra
5、mmingLanguage,JavaMediaFramework™(JMF),bothdevelopedbySunMicrosystems,andtheObjectManagementGroup’s(OMG’s)CommonObjectRequestBrokerArchitecture(CORBA)forconstructingtheROWCsystem.Acomparisonofthissystemwithothersimilardistributedsystemsismade,andseveral
6、enhancementstothesystemareofferedforfutureresearch.OurexperienceinbuildingROWChasuncoveredsomeJMFbugs,butthecombinationofCORBAandJMFhasbeenshownsufficientforproducingadistributedvideosurveillancesystemthatisportable,flexible,andextendable.Keywords:Java,
