2、gstepsofhumandetectionandtrackinghandsinInthispaper,wepresentareal-time3Dpointinggesture3Dspace.Infact,thoseresearcheffortswerebasedontherecognitionalgorithmfornaturalhuman-robotinteractionunreliabletrackingresultsand3Dposition/depthinforma-(HRI).Therecognitionerro

3、rsinpreviouspointinggesturetion.Anotherevenmoredifficultproblemisrecognizingrecognitionalgorithmsaremainlycausedbythelowperfor-smallpointinggestures.Therearetwotypesofgesturesac-manceofthehandstrackingmoduleandbytheunreliabilitycordingtothescaleofapointinggesture.On

4、eisthelargeofthedirectionestimateitself,thereforeourproposedalgo-pointinggesturewheresomeoneextendshisorherarmfullyrithmuses3Dparticlefilterforachievingreliabilityinhandtopointtoanobject.Incontrast,thesmallpointinggesturetrackingandcascadehiddenMarkovmodel(HMM)forai

5、nvolvesarelativelysmallmotion,wheresomeonemovesrobustestimateforthepointingdirection.Whensomeoneonlyaforearmandhandtomakeacompactgesture.Exam-entersthefieldofviewofthecamera,hisorherfaceandplesofbothgesturesareshowninFigure1.Smallpointingtwohandsarelocatedandtracked

6、usingtheparticlefilters.gesturesusuallyresultinthewrongdirectionasthepointingThefirststageHMMtakesthehandpositionestimateanddirectionisestimatedbythelineofsight.mapsittoamoreaccuratepositionbymodelingthekine-maticcharacteristicsoffingerpointing.Theresulting3Dcoordinat

7、esareusedasaninputtothesecondstageHMMthatdiscriminatespointinggesturesfromothers.Finallythepointingdirectionisestimatedinthecaseofpointingstate.Theproposedmethodcandealwithbothlargeandsmallpointinggestures.Theexperimentshowsbetterthan89%gesturerecognitionresultsand
