3、June2003AbstractTransparentreinforcedpolyacrylateswerepreparedusingnanosizedfillerparticleswithradiation-curableacrylates.Toimproveembed-dingofthenanofillerswithintheacrylatematrixthefillersurfacewaschemicallymodified.Thismodificationofthesilicaandaluminananoparticle
4、swasaccomplishedbytrimethoxysilaneshavingmethacryloxypropyl(MEMO),vinyl(VTMO),andn-propyl(PTMO)func-tionalities.Duetoacidcatalyzedcondensationoforganosilanesapolysiloxaneshellwasformedaroundthenanoparticles.ThisshellisbondedtoOHgroupsonthefillersurface.Theappeara
5、nceofcovalentSiOSiRbondswasclearlyshownbymultinuclearMASNMR.MALDI-TOFmassspectroscopyrevealedtheformationofpolysiloxaneoligomerswithdifferentdegreesofcondensation.Intheworkpresented,anacrylate-nanocompositeformulationcontainsupto35wt.%nanosizedsilicacoveredwithp
6、olysiloxanes.ForMEMOmodification,surface-anchoredmethacrylgroupscancopolymerizewithnetworkacrylates.ButalsoPTMO-modifiedcompositematerialsexhibitmarkedlyimprovedpropertiesascomparedtotheneatacrylatepolymer;e.g.,anincreasedmodulusandheatresistance,improvedscratchan
