3、ribetheobservedpatternofmassesandmixing,ofbothquarksandleptons.Inthiswork,wefirstrevisitanS3modelwithonlyoneHiggselectroweakdoublet,wheretheflavoursymmetrymustbebrokeninordertoproduceanacceptablepatternofmassesandmixingforfermions.Then,weanalysedifferentS3models,wh
4、eretheflavoursymmetryispreservedasanexact,buthiddensymmetryofthelowenergyspectra,aftertheelectroweaksymmetrybreaking.ThelattermodelsrequiretheadditionoftwomoreHiggselectroweakdoubletswhichareaccommodatedinanS3doublet.WealsoexploretheconsequencesofaddingafourthHig
5、gselectroweakdoublet,arXiv:1304.6644v1[hep-ph]24Apr2013thusoccupyingallthreeirreduciblerepresentationsofS3.WeshowhowthevariousS3-invariantmassmatricesofthedifferentmodelscanreproducethetwotexturezeroesandNearestNeighbourInteractionmatrixforms,whichhavebeenfoundto
6、provideaviableanduniversaltreatmentofmixingforbothquarksandleptons.WealsofindanalyticalandexactexpressionsfortheCKMmatrixofthemodelsintermsofquarkmassratios.Finally,wecomparetheexpressionsoftheCKMmatrixofthedifferentS3modelswiththemostuptodatevaluesofmassesandmixi
7、nginthequarksector,viaaχ2analysis.WefindthattheanalyticalexpressionswederivedreproduceremarkablywellthemostrecentexperimentaldataoftheCKMmatrix,suggestingthatS3isasymmetryofthequarksector.11IntroductionTheStandardModel(SM)hassuccessfullydescribedthefundamentalint
