2、yCOURSEDESCRIPTION:Thiscoursesatisfiesthe“CriticalReasoning”(A-2)sectionoftheGeneralEducationProgram,whichrecognizescriticalreasoningasafundamentalcompetence.CoursesinthissectionofGeneralEducationtakereasoningitselfastheirfocus.Theirgoalsaretoprovidestudentswithcriteriaandmeth

3、odsfordistinguishinggoodreasoningfrombadandtohelpstudentsdevelopbasicreasoningskillsthattheycanapplybothwithinabroadrangeofacademicdisciplinesandoutsidetheacademicenvironment.Studentsareexpectedtoacquireskillinrecognizingthelogicalstructureofstatementsandarguments,theabilityto

4、distinguishrationalfromnon-rationalmeansofpersuasion,skillinapplyingtheprinciplesofsoundreasoningintheconstructionandevaluationofarguments,andanappreciationofthevalueofcriticalreasoningskillsinthepursuitofknowledge.Tosatisfythisrequirementwewillstudyasystemofnaturaldeduction(f
