3、andtheriseandfallofyourabdomenorchest.Ifyourmindwandersaway,drawyourattentionbacktoyourbreath.Whenanintrusivethoughtdistractsmefrommybreathing,Iimaginethethoughtbeingenvelopedbyacloudandfloatingaway.OthertimesIimaginethethoughtlandingonmyshoulder,andinmyimaginationIflickitg
4、entlyaway.BellybreathingPeopleindistressoftenhaveshallowrespirationsthatareconfinedtothechest.Bellybreathing,orbreathingthatcausesyourabdomentoriseandfall,occurswhenthelungsarewell-filledthroughlong,deepbreaths.It’sbothanindicationofandanagentforrelaxation.Beginbyclosingyou
5、reyesandtakingafewdeepcleansingbreaths.Placeonehandonyourabdomenandonehandonyourchest.Breatheinandoutthroughyournose,andnoticewhetheryourbellyoryourchestrisesandfallswitheachrespiration.Takeslower,deeperbreathsuntilyourchestremainsvirtuallyflatwhileyourabdomenrisesandfalls.
